"What Causes Constipation?"

Have You Been Training the Gut the Other Way Round?

What causes constipation can be due to hundreds of reasons. Here, I'd discuss two manageable factors pertaining to habit.

Morning Routine

You can feel it coming towards the anus...but it's 6:00 a.m. You suppress the urge and continue to sleep in.

You can feel it coming again...but the only toilet available is occupied. You display long-suffering and decide to wait until later.

You can feel it coming beautifully...while you are packed with a sea of humanity in a bus to work. To let go is mission impossible.

For folks who answer "yes" at least twice? You are training your gut effectively to be sluggish.

Reason: The rectum does not automatically dispel stools. Rather, it sends signals to the brain to make the important decision. If you often put yourself in a situation where you tell the brain: " Don't poo!" I can assure you the brain repeats the same message to your rectum. In the long run, you desensitize your rectum's normal reaction to accumulation of stools.

How Much Do You Get Physical?

Most of your walking is between the car and the house.

You prefer elevator to climbing the stairs.

You are a couch potato during leisure time.

You don't exercise such as brisk walking, swimming, cycling, gym or whatever.

For folks who again, answer "yes" at least twice. You are training your gut to develop muscles...flabby muscles.

Why your gut needs muscles: Assuming your brain manages to convey " Let's go poo!" signal to the rectum which responds by contraction to squeeze the stool towards exit i.e. your anus. This is when the abdominal muscles exert additional pressure to push the stool out. Let me put it this way: it takes muscles to eject even a frail little old lady out of the premise. Your abdominal muscles therefore have to be reasonably fit to perform the same function. Otherwise, it's like you the boss order security guards to evict a pest but your guards alas...are not strong enough. So the stool is still hanging around... Do your abdominal muscles get enough abdominal exercises?

That's the two elements in your life style to observe for causes of constipation namely: 1) making time to eliminate stools during the morning golden opportunity and 2)physical exercise.
